Ecommerce has a drawback as compared to brick and mortar shops i.e. they take days to deliver but delivering in hours will soon be a reality. After Amazon announced its ‘within-an-hour’ delivery for Prime Users, Flipkart is also planning to introduce such a service. The country’s largest online retailer is figuring out how it can get goods to the customer’s doorstep in as little as three hours.

Flipkart already has a Same-Day Delivery option which is available in 10 cities only whereas it s In-A-Day Delivery is available in 50 cities. Flipkart is evaluating which products and cities it can start with and service will be rolled out in coming six months. Ecommerce is aiming to negate the fact about instant delivery by physical shops and devising ways to deliver as soon as they can.

“We have to figure out the technology, pricing for these services,” said Sujeet Kumar, head of WS Retail and ekart Logistics. “Such deliveries are necessity driven — say a thing a customer wants to gift or something he needs immediately.

“Players with marketplace-based models… will find it much harder to pull this off,” he said. “For such players, the delivery often involves picking up the merchandise from a third-party location and it is much harder to offer ultra-fast delivery.

Ecommerce websites have surely done their homework and self-introspection to strengthen their lacking areas. We hope Flipkart will soon be delivering via drones too.!
