As festive fever kicks in, ecommerce giant Amazon has revealed that its highly anticipated sale event, the Great Indian Festival (GIF), will go live on October 10.

Similar to previous years, Amazon will offer its prime members exclusive early access to the annual sale event.

Although Amazon’s rival Flipkart has not revealed dates for its Big Billion Days Sale yet, it is expected that the company will also start its festive sales around the same time. Last year, both the ecommerce giants started their festive sales on September 23.

Ahead of the festive season, Amazon India recently launched multi-channel fulfilment (MCF) for sellers, including D2C brands and retailers, to help them handle customer orders received from various channels.

“MCF makes it easy for sellers to create orders for their off-Amazon shoppers, track them, and generate tax invoices, while ensuring swift shipping and faster delivery,” Amazon said in a statement.

Last week, Amazon India also announced the launch of its pre-festive advertising campaign ‘Khushiyan apno ki, aur apni bhi’.

It is expected that conglomerate-backed players such as Tata Neu, JioMart will also become more aggressive during the festive season. Meanwhile, the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has launched the ‘ONDC Network Gift Card’ for corporate gifting and employee engagement.

While all the ecommerce platforms are gearing up for the festive season, the gross merchandise value (GMV) of the country’s ecommerce sector is expected to grow 18-20% to INR 90,000 Cr during the festive season this year from INR 76,000 Cr last year, as per consulting firm Redseer.

Moreover, nearly 14 Cr shoppers are expected to shop during the festive season sale this year.

In a bid to enhance the experience for sellers and customers, ecommerce companies have started leveraging the new technology as well. Flipkart, for instance, has introduced an AI-driven catalogue designer aimed at assisting sellers in crafting compelling product catalogues.

Meanwhile, Amazon has integrated advanced AI capabilities to aid sellers in creating more effective product descriptions, titles, and listing particulars.
