With professionals across the country willing to upskill or reskill themselves to stay relevant in a rapidly-changing technology sector, the Indian market is seeing the entry of many edtech startups to join the homegrown brigade. The boom in the edtech and skill development sector has also led to a wider reach for Amazon Web Services (AWS) EdStart programme in less than a year of its launch in India. The company has announced that Eckovation, Kings Learning and PlayAblo are the latest startups to AWS startup programme to utilise the company’s cloud technology.
AWS EdStart assists entrepreneurs in building online learning, analytics and campus management solutions on its cloud by renting out server space and bandwidth. AWS EdStart was launched in India in June 2018 for startups that are under five years old and generate less than $10 Mn in annual revenue.

PlayAblo

Bengaluru-based edtech startup PlayAblo’s cofounder and CTO Ananthakrishnan G told Financial Express that the company is looking to build an online learning platform that is compatible with the structured educational environment through gamification and motivational tools that seek to make learning more fun and improve outcomes.
“With AWS, learners from every corner of India have been able to experience advanced technology capabilities, thereby leveling the learning field for one and all,” he added.
Kings Learning

Also based in Bengaluru, this edtech startup offers English language training to Indian students and professionals looking to upgrade their skills. Partnering with UK-based King’s College, which has a minority stake in this startup. the startup is looking to offer a seamless experience to learners across its channels with the support of AWS.

Founded in March 2014, Eckovation has an AI-enabled education platform that focuses on three segments including professional learning, test preparation, and school education. “On the technology front, we are using machine learning tools such as Amazon SageMaker and other advanced tools like EC2, Rekognition and Transcribe for improving our efficiency and increase our network,” founder and CTO Akshat Goel told FE. Eckovation allows open learning by letting teachers to share their group code outside of classrooms. AWS will help Eckovation spearhead innovation and scale up the AI elements in its tech stack.

Amazon says bringing AWS EdStart to India allows it to help the growing number of edtech startups in India build solutions on the scalable AWS platform used by the world’s leading tech startups and companies.
Designed to help edtech startups grow and scale rapidly, EdStart members will have access to numerous technical training opportunities to strengthen business. Resources include webcasts, technical training sessions, and specialised partner-led presentations.
