Apart from placing an order for the products required, one can also opt for subscription services. In this case, website delivers customer’s products, based on their requirements on the suggested intervals & timings.

After selecting the required day(s) & product requirements, user gets an option to either pay by cash or pay online by recharging their account.

Since its delivery system is prepaid, one can stop / pause / restart the services just by sending message / whatsapp @ 9765775521. When the service is stopped, the consumer can request for refund (if any).

It lets one place orders through call, message or whatsapp. The startup claims to delivery products within 3 hours. However, the delivery time may vary depending on the product of the order placed.

For subscription based customers, the delivery charges are free, but for other customers it charges INR 20 extra for orders below INR 200.

The delivery of the products is taken care by RainCan’s staff of 10 people. As for weekend deliveries, the company hires part time people as the number of orders are comparatively high. The company has tied up with a chain of distributors, which helps in keeping its cost of procurement low and subsequently the savings are passed on to the consumer.

Munendra, cofounder of RainCan said, “FMCG companies have painstakingly built a network of distributors, wholesalers, and retailers over the last few decades. At RainCan our idea is to leverage the existing infrastructure rather than reinventing the wheel.”

The startup is operational only in Pune with over 4000 variety of products on its portal. It is currently serving over 100 orders a day that are placed via its portal and Android app.

Going forward, it is planning to raise $1 Mn funding to hit 10,000 orders a day.

“The greatest investment stories are those where a simple and elegant solution solves the problem for a large number of people. That’s what RainCan brings to the table.” said Ajeet Khurana, Investor.

Recently, Delhi-based online fresh food and grocery store iOrderFresh, raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Best Foodworks Pvt. Ltd. The startup lets customers order fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, bakery products, pulses and organic food through its Android and iOS app.
