Cooking is not exactly everyone’s cup of tea. Not to mention the kind of schedule most of us have these days, most of us no longer have the time or patience to score through dozens of cookbooks or find a recipe via the internet.

Now even if you managed to find the time to go through all this pain or can afford a full time cook, there comes the issue of partaking a balanced and healthy diet. Let’s face it, most of us just end up making a quick sandwich or grab some takeaway food.

We’ve all probably wondered, when there’s an app for everything out there, why isn’t there something for this? Or even better an oven or a microwave that does all this? Well now there is one!

SectorQube, a startup based out Startup Village in Kerala, is on a mission to solve these problems and has come up with MAID (Make All Incredible Dishes) – a smart kitchen assistant & oven which not only knows what to cook but also how to cook.

MAID was created to make cooking simple, social and fun. MAID is the first microwave oven that brings crowd-sourced recipes directly to your kitchen. You can search for recipes based on ingredients, type of dish or just ask MAID to recommend a dish.

How it works?

MAID is connected to an ever growing recipe store via the internet, which is a curated crowd-sourced platform where chefs and cooking enthusiasts across the world can upload recipes. The platform includes all kinds of dishes which were either hidden away in some recipe book or known only to a few in distant corners of the world.

The Recipe Store will have a recipe builder application which sets a standard for recipe creation and then these recipes are made available in MAID after a basic testing.

Adding on, it will also have the capability to stream cookery shows from the Recipe Store so that you can cook while watching them.

And that’s not all! While you cook and by looking at your eating habits and calorie intake, it’ll learn your calorie requirements and based on that it will also play the role of a personal dietician recommending a healthy balanced diet for you.

With this, just like a smartphone, MAID software can be updated over the air. This means you don’t need to buy a new microwave oven for a new feature!

Features such as voice instructions and visuals to prepare the ingredients, step by step instructions and features like allowing people to set their personal preferences and intelligent personalisation variables also comes in as an add on.

The Mobile App & Its Usability

MAID also comes with a mobile app which shows notifications when the dish is ready. The app has an activity tracking feature that tracks what the user is doing. It helps MAID calculate how many calories has the user burnt and then based on that, it suggests a healthy diet for the user. MAID app can be used to remotely operate MAID – preheat MAID for cooking, create a recipe from the MAID app and cook from the MAID oven and a lot more.

Adding to this, the app keeps on learning what you cook regularly, tracks your activity using data from your phone and smart watch and gives you suggestions for a healthy balanced diet. MAID also prompts you to work out, take a walk, may be go for a run based on the calories you’ve consumed. A personal dietician at your disposal and you don’t need to pay an extra dime!

MAID has it’s initial prototype ready and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for mass production. It had launched its campaign on 29th October to raise $50k Mn and has reached almost half of this goal backed already with over 90 backers in just 3 days.

SectorQube, Inc., the company behind MAID is researching on the internet of things space since 2011. It has been working on consumer electronics projects alongside major manufacturers and thus gained valuable experience in designing, building and shipping consumer durables.
