The Origin Story

Saket Dhankar, an IIT-Bombay and IIM-Calcutta alumnus, wanted to put his 20+ years of experience in fashion, design and lifestyle space to good use. Inspired by iconic home brands like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel, he and his wife, Kanupriya Anand, blended modern chic with consumer convenience to set up Haus & Kinder, a new-age, stylish brand for home and baby essentials.

The Differentiator

The brand features two major categories – H&K Home, which offers home essentials such as bedsheets, cushion covers, comforters, curtains and towels, and H&K Baby, which provides baby bedding, clothes, swaddles, blankets, toys and gift items. It is a one-stop shop for trendy home and baby products that appeal to new-age mothers with an eye for aesthetics. The startup has collaborated with vendors across India who work exclusively with the brand and produce up to 2,000 units daily. Additionally, Haus & Kinder has an in-house design team that ensures quality and distinctive style.

The Growth

Its digital campaign film Your Beautiful New World, featuring actor Kalki Koechlin, encompassed the self-fulfilment journey of new moms and reached more than 20 Lakh viewers within 24 hours. It was also a part of Amazon Propel Cohort 2023, an initiative that mentors startups, provides prize money to top brands and helps them scale globally. The brand hit an annual run rate of INR 100 Cr in FY23 and wants to emerge as an INR 500 Cr entity by FY26.

What’s Next

The startup has opted for a horizontal brand extension to enhance brand recall and build customer trust across categories. It will launch new categories like serveware and expand baby clothing options in 2024. Haus & Kinder expects to break even this year with more than INR 140 Cr revenue and aims to open 15 exclusive stores in eight metro cities by 2025.
