While working in an IT MNC, Vipul had the responsibility to deliver 1000+ animated web banners, ad banners and website landing pages, mostly interactive. “It was very difficult to meet the expectation of clients” he recollects. Most prominent issues were to find workforce with adequate programming skills, collaborating between domain guys, graphic designers and programming team. Once graphic elements were ready, it was on the technical team to do the redundant programming work to animate these elements.
CanvasFlip started with a single page web application where one could drop an image on the integrated Canvas and position it by dragging. It was created for personal use but within 3 days, 50+ graphic designers were extensively using it. And then it was adopted by the designer community which kept on posting request for more features on their Facebook page. The duo then spread the word about their pet project in one of the NASSCOM meets. Driven by response from this meet, they decided to go full time with this innovation. They finally decided to quit their respective jobs and launched the company on 2nd Aug 2014.
CanvasFlip is a commercial application, available with initial 30-days free period after which depending upon the need, one can go with periodic subscription (monthly/annual) by paying a very nominal fee. They don’t charge for normal overage (usage after allowed limit) unless there’s consistent excess of use. Marketing and Advertising Agencies, Small and Medium Business Owners, Learning Content Agencies, Freelance Graphic Designers and UX/UI developers are some of those who can benefit a lot from this application.
With tough and famous competitors like Adobe, Google and BannerFlow, that offer services in the same space, the company believes that there are certain key factors that set them apart like the ease of access, improvised workflow decided by their in-house algorithms and affordable prices.
Like all startups, they too have to face certain challenges and validating their idea in their targeted segment is one of the major challenges that they face. Earlier, their core team didn’t have domain expert in HR consulting, so they decided to engage external HR consultants. Then they visited clients together to be able to package content better.
Currently, the company acts as a technology partner with content development agencies to serve some of the Fortune 500 – India based out of Hyderabad. Their clientele includes leading IT/ITES companies, pharmaceutical and banking companies with a market size of more than 2387 companies in India.
With a vision to empower the non-technical group to be able to create animated content without involving any programming skills, the duo wants to make a mark in the market. They think that it’s a continues process of enabling emerging technology for various domains to be leveraged in best possible manner. Whether it is about enabling instant video search across platforms or crawling an entire Facebook profile for next video one might be looking for – they have always given their best effort.
