With banana chips made from freshly plucked Nendran bananas, Beyond Snack aims to achieve Lay’s-like eminence in the banana chips market
The Origin Story
The world loves yummy snacks made from super-healthy ingredients. So, Manas Madhu decided to give people a taste of the ‘veggie’ meat (mock meat/meat alternatives) made from green jackfruit (enchor). But it failed to tickle the taste buds, and he had to look for other options. Banana chips turned out to be a tasty (and healthy) alternative, having the potential to emerge as a market winner in the absence of big brands. That’s how Beyond Snack was launched in 2018. Later on, investors Jyoti Rajguru and Gautam Raghuraman recognised the startup’s potential and joined the leadership team.
The Differentiator
Beyond Snack’s crispy banana chips are made from the Nendran variety, a Kerala staple with many health benefits. These bananas are directly sourced from farmers and chips are prepared in under two minutes to retain all natural nutrients instead of 15-20 minutes of frying. The farm-to-plate journey may take less than 24 hours and snack-lovers can munch on fresh chips every day.
The Growth
As the D2C brand is headquartered in Kerala, its warehouses are strategically set up in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata to cater to customers across the country. It claims to be the top-selling ‘emerging snack brand’ on platforms like Amazon, Flipkart and BigBasket. Its products are also available on quick-commerce platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart, as well as in 10K+ brick-and-mortar retail outlets such as DMart and Reliance stores.
What’s Next
Beyond Snack wants to double its revenue in the current financial year and expand its pan-India presence. It aspires to achieve Lay’s-like eminence in the banana chips market and reach INR 100 Cr revenue by FY25.
