People like to make things complicated.
Take the world of business for example. After 30 years in the trenches, I’ve come to realize that success in the business world, as in life, is based upon a number of simple, common sense truths.
1. Companies don’t sell products and services. They sell feelings, confidence and experience.
2. The person on the other side of the sales counter or on the phone IS the company.
3. Every customer complaint is an opportunity to make things right and acquire a customer for life.
4. Customers will punish companies that don’t listen.
5. Treating employees well translates into good customer relations and service.
6. Competing only on price instead of value is a losing proposition.
7. Being the first at something does not guarantee success.
8. Loving what you do won’t help your business if nobody wants what you’re selling.
9. People who don’t smile lose customers.
10. Business is about one person trusting another.
11. Innovate or die.
12. Genuine caring beats “selling” every time.
