Natural Language Processing (NLP) refers to technologies that allow machines to understand, interpret and generate human language in text or speech. In India, the NLP market generated about $2,728.0 Mn in 2024 and is projected to reach $28,280.4 Mn by 2030, growing at a ~46.8% CAGR, according to Grand View Research.

Startups and companies are using NLP to develop AI-powered chatbots, voice assistants, sentiment-analysis engines, automated summarisation tools, data-extraction systems and translation services, often with a focus on Indian languages and regional use-cases.

But the growth path is not free of obstacles. Challenges include the scarcity of high-quality regional language datasets, uneven multilingual support, difficulties with contextual understanding of Indian languages, compliance and data-privacy concerns, and high compute/infrastructure costs.
