YuppTV, an Internet-based TV streaming service provider has launched its services in India. The company has launched its development centre in Hyderabad. About 90% of the company’s 200 employees are based out of the city.

The firm will focus on metropolitan areas and smartphone users in India for now.

YuppTV, leading over-the-top (OTT) provider for Indian content has set a target of $20 Mn to $30 Mn turnover for the current financial year. Last year, the turnover was $15 Mn to $16 Mn.

The company offers over 200 channels in 12 languages. Apart from live TV experience without buffering, YuppTV also offers catch-up TV technology, whereby viewers can watch TV content from past 7 days. It also provides viewers access to over 5,000 movies and hundreds of TV Shows on their TV at the click of a button. As part of the Video On Demand (VOD) service, YuppTV has over 25,000 hours of video content in its catalogue and 2,500 hours more is added every day.

Founded in 2006, with headquarters in Atlanta, YuppTV, is going to raise $50 Mn in its Series B funding round, towards business expansion. The firm has raised about $10 Mn till date. Uday Reddy, Founder and CEO, YuppTV, said the proceeds will be used to expand operations in India and on customer acquisition.

YuppTV services are accessible on multiple Internet enabled devices like smart TVs, smartphones and tablets. The YuppTV app can be downloaded on any Android and iOS device. According to Reddy, currently, it has a potential to reach more than 200 Mn smartphone users.
