Bangalore-based fashion retailer, Voonik will be launching men’s fashion app. To speed up setting up of this new vertical, it has acqui-hired Getsty, a curator of personalised fashion for men

Personal shopping site for men, Getsty.com, based out of Bangalore, was founded in 2015 by Saurabh Acharya and Ashish Khandelwal. The startup has created a personal shopping experience for men, by connecting them to stylists.

Through a simple questionnaire, customers can create their profile on Getsty portal, on the basis of which their personal stylist would send them a set of 8-10 clothes that are most appropriate for them. Customers could keep whatever they like and return the rest.

Saurabh Acharya, co-founder Getsty, said, “Ashish and I were convinced from the beginning that there are millions of people like us, who don’t know how to dress correctly and how to choose the right clothes. When we heard about Voonik’s plans to launch a men’s division, we immediately wanted to have a discussion with them. The Voonik team and overall culture is really impressive, so we decided to come on board.”

With this acqui-hire, Voonik plans to leverage its existing customer base, its supplier network and its recommendation engine, to speed up its own men’s offerings.

Voonik was founded in 2013 by Sujayath Ali and Navaneetha Krishnan. The online fashion retailer is a personal shopping app for women, which allows them to buy apparels from multiple stores, according to their body type, lifestyle, and budget.

Sujayath Ali, CEO and co-founder of Voonik, said, “With over 5 Mn installs, we are already rank 3 and have highest engagement in shopping apps, and have grown 2600% Y-O-Y in FY15-16. Our customers have consistently demanded a men’s range on Voonik, so that the men in their families could also have as much fun shopping as they do. With this huge demand already in place and the lack of good fashion apps for men, I feel there is a large untapped market for this product.”

Although there are a number of players in the fashion segment, Voonik sets itself apart from other conventional ecommerce firms by offering an in-house personal shopping platform that makes recommendations to shoppers based on their profile and preferences.

Prior to this, Voonik had acqui-hired Trialkart, a startup that gives a virtual dressing room experience to users, for an undisclosed amount.
