The United States-based company Visa, one of the largest payments network is planning to build an incubator-like centre for startups in Bangalore.
Fascinated by the technology skills offered by India, the company is looking to support the potential to build new-age solutions and applications for payments.
Rajat Taneja, executive vice president of technology at Visa told ET that they want to have an environment where they can engage with others like Apple, Google or Square or other startups to enhance the payments space with solutions.
According to a source, the company is currently exploring an incubator-like model for startups in India, similar to the accelerator programme that US retailer Target has in the country.
The startup centre will function along the lines of innovation hubs to connect with local startups. “It will be housed in (Visa’s) new technology centre in Bagmane, but we’re still in the early stages with that,” said Taneja.
Earlier this month, Visa opened a technology centre in Bangalore that houses about 1,000 new employees, also it had unveiled a new mobile payment service for India called mVisa.
