Gurgaon-based mobile service marketplace, Urbanclap has raised $10 Mn from SAIF Partners, Accel Partners. The company had previously raised a seed round of $1.6 Mn (INR 10 Cr) from aforementioned investors and Snapdeal’s founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal. The company plans to use these funds in building its technology, hiring and expanding to at least 15 cities this year.
UrbanClap was founded by Varun Khaitan, an IIT-Kanpur graduate with former Twitter employee Raghav Chandra and IIM-Ahmedabad almunus Abhiraj Bhal in October last year. The company provides a marketplace for standardized blue collared services like electricians or home cleaning where customers can directly book and pay for the service on app. It also provides services like photographers, interior designers and more. The startup has witnessed 6000 seller registration and 60,000 customer app downloads within a span of two months.
Recently, Bangalore-based Housejoy raised $4 Mn in Series A round of funding from Matrix Partners. The industry has witnessed a rapid rise as 69 startups were founded in 2014 alone. Company’s competition include Localoye,UrbanPro, Housejoy, Taskbob, Findyahan and Qyk which have raised seed funding from institutional and angel investors.
