Unikrn, a startup focused on esports betting has acquired DotaProHub, an 18 month old esports startup.
Gurgaon-based DotaProHub, is an analysis tool for competitive Dota 2 gaming that caters to fans, professional players and casting studios alike.As part of the deal, DotaProHub founders Swaroop Hegde and Aditya Mukherjee are moving to Seattle, WA where Unikrn’s main offices are located.
DotaProHub provides in-depth statistics in the form of dynamic visualizations to deliver unique and automated analysis, creatively combines historical, as well as real-time data, from every Dota2 professional match ever played. This helps the users to receive at-a-glance and easy-to-understand visual data of competitive Dota2, and other professional esports matches. Essentially, the DotaProHub statistics go beyond run-of-the-mill performance metrics such as rank and rating into meta statistics like winnings and characteristics.
Competitive gaming, commonly known as esports, is a growing content niche with global interests. It has grown over the past few years from niche, to cottage industry, to outright field. Large tournaments in this sector can draw viewership up to millions. Games like League of Legends, Dota2, and Starcraft 2 have large professional broadcasting, where the competing teams can opt for sponsorship from large corporations and deep rosters.
Unikrn, founded by former Microsoft MD, Rahul Sood, helps people place bets on upcoming video game matches. The company has raised over $10 Mn in funding so far including a raised $7 Mn Series A round. It investors include Ashton Kutcher, Guy Oseary’s of Sound Ventures, Jonathan Teo and Justin Caldbeck of Binary Capital.
Thanks to the growing popularity of esports, companies like Unikrn are now building secondary apps on top of its general audience. It plans to ensure that every user can place a bet on its platform as seamlessly as possible.
