According to a new report published by Reuters, Indian woman, who had sued Uber after accusing one of its driver for raping her, has “voluntarily ended lawsuit” against the company.
Earlier this year, both sides had agreed to participate in private mediation to try to resolve the lawsuit, according to court filings. However, the filing did not disclose any details on how the case was settled.
The woman had sued Uber in the US federal court in January, stating that the company failed to maintain basic safety procedures. In the lawsuit, the woman called Uber the “modern day equivalent of electronic hitchhiking.”
However, Uber argued in court filings that the woman sued the wrong corporate entity as the driver had a contract with Uber BV, a Netherlands-based entity with no US operations.
Uber representatives and the woman declined to comment on this.
The case in the US District Court, Northern District of California is Doe vs. Uber Technologies Inc, 15-424.
