Cab hailing app Uber has partnered with the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, in a bid to boost entrepreneurial ecosystem.

As a part of the agreement, individuals who want to join the Uber fleet will have to sign up via online portal – National Career Service (NCS). NCS is an online platform launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide employment services to public. It connects career counsellors, placement organisations and employers.

David Plouffe, Chief Advisor and Member, Board of Directors, Uber said, “It’s great to partner with the government on new work opportunities that go beyond traditional employment. We’re committed to help many thousands of people become micro-entrepreneurs, so they can benefit from the new flexible, independent work that on demand platforms make possible”.

The partnership will provide micro-entrepreneurship opportunities to drivers who register on the NCS portal. The ministry will create a ‘Start Your Own Business’ page on the NCS website which will be an easy way to connect job seekers to sign up to drive with Uber. It will also help in providing vehicle-financing services for the aspirants who do not have a car.

Earlier in January, Uber announced that it will partner with Invest India, an official agency dedicated to investment promotion and facilitation, to launch UberEXCHANGE incubation program.

Besides Uber, the ministry is also in talks with Indian Staffing Federation (ISF), Monster, Tech Mahindra and Quikr, to maximise the potential of NCS. These strategic interventions will enhance career and employment opportunities, offer counselling and guidance for career development.
