Uber launched its uberASSIST service in India, a specialised service for disabled and elderly passengers.

The cab company has launched the service in partnership with iCare Life on the occasion of World Disability Day, celebrated on December 3, every year.

Under this partnership, iCare Life and Uber will provide special training to drivers to assist riders with different accessibility needs, while boarding or deboarding a car, apart from folding and storing their wheelchairs, walkers and scooters for transport.

In addition to this, the training module will also include specific training on safety requirements of people with different accessibility needs, which will include awareness on visible and invisible disability and communication tips.

For this, the riders need to enter the code ‘ASSISTDEL’ in the promotions tab and then select the “uberASSIST” option above the slider. After selecting the location, users can avail the uberASSIST service for their rides.

Gagan Bhatia, general manager at Uber North India said, “With uberASSIST, our driver-partners are extending convenient and reliable transportation options for everyone and everywhere. This initiative will help people with different accessibility needs to get around the city safely and conveniently.”

Prior to this, Uber also announced its UberAssist service in Singapore. However, the company already has the programme rolling out in other markets.
