The government will soon launch a new initiative – a helpline for entrepreneurs on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Named as – ‘Twitter Seva’, it will act as a source of direct point of contact for entrepreneurs seeking funding, support or government assistance of any kind.

“The service is expected to be launched by 21st April,” Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State, Commerce & Industry said at a media briefing.

A team of officials from the ministry of commerce and industry will work to connect various stakeholders such as venture capitalists, incubation centres and to look after issues with government clearances.

Top officials of the ministry along with Nirmala Sitharaman will personally scan all the tweets on a daily basis and the queries will be directed to the relevant authorities for the solutions.

Based on the inputs of the manual scavenging, it is believed that the government will work on developing software to make the process automated. So, later on the queries are automatically routed to relevant departments in real time.

This follows the earlier citizen engagement initiatives of the Railway and Power ministry on Twitter. Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, has also been seen actively interacting with Indian citizens and providing the needful government assistance on matters.

Under the Startup policy, the government has taken various measures to promote entrepreneurship in the country. Earlier this month the Department of Industrial Promotion and Policy (DIPP), headed by Ramesh Abhishek came up with new guidelines (on how to run marketplaces in India), and FAQs on tax benefits for startups. It also unveiled a portal and an app dedicated to Indian startups.
