The US-based mobile dating social app, Tinder, has launched its operations in India. The company will have its first international office in the country.
Tinder has also appointed Taru Kapoor as India Head. She will be based in Delhi and will lead India operations for the company.
Taru will focus on establishing the Tinder brand in India, steering its user growth and increasing user engagement by focusing on local user needs.
Sean Rad, CEO, Tinder said, “We have exciting plans for Tinder in 2016 and having Taru on board is a step towards making India one of our core markets. Taru’s passion for Tinder and understanding of the Indian market makes us even more confident in our plans to expand in India.”
Taru is an MBA graduate from Harvard and was an active member of startups and VC community in Harvard Business School. She has extensive experience in business development, product and growth strategy and financial modelling and planning. She has previously worked with The Boston Consulting Group and Sequoia Capital India. She is an IIT Delhi alum.

Launched in 2012, Tinder is a social app for meeting new people. It claims to have a global reach in 196 countries with 26 Mn matches made each day and more than 10 Bn matches are made to date. In 2015, the company introduced Tinder Plus, giving users access to premium features, Rewind and Passport.
