Coursera has raised a $49.5 Mn Series C funding round led by Times Internet, New Enterprise Associates, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, & International Finance Corporation. The startup plans to bring in an additional $10.5 Mn to this round.
With this new round, the company plans to expand in Latin America, China, and India.
Times Internet, the digital arm of The Times Of India group, has also announced a strategic partnership with Coursera. Under the partnership, Times will use its cross platform promotion and growth capabilities to help Indian students and professionals find Coursera and earn certificates from top universities in India and around the world. Times will also be looking for a growth in India while bringing job-relevant learning opportunities.
Currently, Coursera has about one million registered learners in the country.
Besides, Coursera is planning to partner with leading Indian universities and corporations to localize content and provide accessible credentials in the globally competitive fields of business and technology. It is already in partnerships with top US universities like Yale University, University of Pennsylvania and Duke University.
