Mumbai-based Edtech startup, Testbook, has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from publishing house S. Chand and Company.

Testbook leverages technology to make exam preparation more efficient and to bridge the gaps which exist in current coaching models by making quality preparation accessible and affordable. It provides mock tests for GATE, SBI PO, SSC CGL, IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, LIC AAO, and Railways, among other aptitude preparation.

Testbook was founded in 2014 by a few IITians with experience in various fields like teaching, technology, marketing, operations, etc. The founders include Narendra Agrawal, Ashutosh Kumar, Praveen Agrawal, Manoj Munna, Yadvendar Champawat and Abhishek Sagar.

Gaurav Jhunjhnuwala, Director, S Chand and Company, said, “With several of the competitive examinations in India switching from a paper based to a computer based testing format, we believe the test preparation market is poised for disruption.”

The platform, currently having over 4 Lakh students, had launched an Android app in June 2015. Testbook launched its Current Affairs app to the general public earlier this month. So far, the app has garnered around 25,000 downloads, and is trending among ‘Top New Free Apps’ in the education category. It provides details about current affairs along with testing users on the provided current affairs materials.

Earlier this month, another Edtech startup, Mumbai-based online test preparation platform, Toppr, marked its second acquisition in less than a year. After acquiring Jodhpur-based Easyprep, the startup acquired knowledge delivery platform – Manch.

Other players in this segment include Flipclass, iProf, Embibe, Sigrid Education, Meritnation, Simplilearn, and Englishleap.
