Bengaluru-based food-ordering app, Swiggy has announced that Mukesh Bansal has joined the company’s Advisory Board as a Strategic Advisor, in a statement today.

Bansal was the founder and former CEO of fashion ecommerce platform, Myntra. In March 2016, Bansal, and  Ankit Nagori, former Chief Business Officer at Flipkart, who resigned from Flipkart in February 2016, teamed up to launch a startup in the area of healthcare, and sports and fitness. He is currently the founder CEO of Curefit, set to launch in early 2017.

In another development, Bansal has also joined the board of Gurugram-based logistics startup Rivigo. Talking about the development, he said, “Besides building CureFit, I wanted to work with a few entrepreneurs who are building a large business that could be billion-dollar companies in a few years.”

Bansal’s strong customer focus and business fundamentals will be crucial for Swiggy as it continues to build an efficient food-ordering platform.

Additionally, his role in building an incredible product and scaling private brands at Myntra will prove to be beneficial for Swiggy, as they run a host of initiatives to solve different problems for their consumers.

Sriharsha Majety, co-founder, Swiggy said, “We now have Mukesh Bansal on board as we navigate the complexities of a rapidly growing business and build the foundation of a very valuable company. He brings an intricate familiarity with the ecommerce business, metrics, goals, and complexities. His guidance shall help the leadership team achieve the goal of changing the way India eats and drive Swiggy’s next phase of growth. His expertise will add significant value to our growth, and strengthen our capabilities.”

Earlier this year, Swiggy raised $35 Mn in Series C round of funding from New York-based investors Harmony Partners and Singapore-based RB investments. Existing investors SAIF Partners also participated in this round. Till date, it has raised $75.5 Mn from Bessemer Venture Partners, Norwest Venture Partners, SAIF Partners, and Accel Partners in four rounds of funding.

Swiggy was founded in August 2014 by BITS Pilani alumni Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and IIT Kharagpur graduate Rahul Jaimini.

The startup is currently operational in eight cities including Bengaluru, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Chennai with over 9,000 restaurants listed on its platform.
