Calcutta Angels Network (CAN)’s annual event- ‘Start-up East 2016’ was announced yesterday by Siddharth Pansari, President, CAN.

The event will take place on September 22, 2016, at Pala ITC, 10:30 AM onwards.

Industry representatives will include Anirudh Suri, TCM, Kaushal Dugar, Ravi Narayan, Kunal Kapoor, Naganand Doraswamy, and Rahul Khanna who will join the event as speakers and panelists.

The event will be a house to stories of entrepreneurship from the Eastern Indian, discussing their journeys, along with a discussion regarding emerging trends in business in the region. It will be a full day event that will have two keynote addresses and two panel discussions.

The key highlight of this year’s event will be ‘Startup Showcase’ powered by NASSCOM Startup Warehouse Kolkata. Under this, 10 startups from the region will present themselves the event. Of the 10, the chosen three will be given an opportunity to pitch their ideas towards the end of the event. The startups will be shortlisted by the attendees of the event.

Talking about the event, Siddharth Pansari said, “We are very enthusiastic about this event, especially after its phenomenal success, last year. This event is the largest startup event in Eastern India. I am hopeful it will add value to the entire startup ecosystem and will help with the easing out of queries which a startup might have.”

The event will primarily focus on the startup ecosystem of Eastern India. According to an official statement, Start-up East will witness more than 150 investors who will engage in ‘Live Voting’ and ‘Live-Investing’ in more than 10 selected startups including Alive Home from IIT-Kharagpur, Edurade, Knowall, iKure etc.

The shortlisted startups are selected from the 40 applicants that presented their ideas to CAN.

Start-Up East is essentially an initiative to put all the stakeholders together on a platform to further strengthen and boost the startup ecosystem in Eastern India.

Calcutta Angels Network (CAN) is a platform for entrepreneurs and investors which enables angel investments and mentorship. It claims to be the first structured platform of this kind in Eastern India.
