Yesterday Bollywood actor Aamir Khan made a political statement on the growing intolerance in the country. Today, the repercussions were seen by Snapdeal as users started giving 1 star ratings to its app in the play store to express their disapproval over the actor’s remarks, who happens to be its brand ambassador.
Speaking at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism awards ceremony on Monday evening, Aamir said he was ‘alarmed’ by the number of incidents of violence, adding that his wife Kiran Rao had even suggested leaving the country.
While his remark has as usual unleashed a flood of reactions from the Twitter junta, ecommerce portal Snapdeal also suffered the ramifications of the actor’s remark. Aamir endorses Snapdeal, hence, users are now flocking to Play store and giving 1 star rating to Snapdeal app. Some of them are also requesting Snapdeal to remove Aamir Khan as the ambassador.
While the debate on intolerance rages in the country, with media, politicians and actors all joining the bandwagon, Snapdeal has become one of the first startups to face the heat of this rising fracas.
