Pranab Mukherjee Calls Upon Young Technologists To Make ‘Startup India, Stand Up India’ Campaign A Success

While speaking to students at 13th Convocation Ceremony of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, President Pranab Mukherjee called upon the young technologists to aim at becoming entrepreneurs in order to make ‘Startup India, Stand up India’ campaign a success.

‘Startup India, stand up India’ was coined as a new slogan by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech, which has been initiated to promote financing for startups and offer incentives to boost entrepreneurship and job creation.

He said, “The success of this initiative will depend on how innovatively we can use the technology as well as human resources available in our country. I call upon you, the young technologists, that instead of looking for job opportunities, you may aim to become entrepreneurs who create job opportunities for people.”

At the convocation Mukherjee said that young graduates have responsibility to steer societal transformation using their knowledge of science and technology.

He added, “Through your startups and entrepreneurship you can wealth for the nation, society and people, which will be your biggest contribution to inclusive and sustainable development of our country.”

Pranab Mukherjee also congratulated Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi to secure, 147 and 179 rank respectively, in top 200 educational institutes in the QS World University Rankings of 2015-16

Mukherjee said that a high rank can boost academic community’s morale and open greater avenues of growth and placement for students.

Citing a report, Mukherjee said that IITs rank at 61st position globally, and IITs as a unit together, are among the world’s top entrepreneurial under graduate universities after Stanford, UC Berkeley and MIT.

He further added, “I am sharing this information to highlight the entrepreneurial capacity of our institutions and their potential to transform India through innovation and indigenization.”
