Picsdream, an online marketplace for photography has raised angel funding from a group of investors led by Raman Roy (co-founder of Indian Angel Network). Other prominent investors include Ankit Nagori, ex-CBO Flipkart and Harish Natarajan, former CEO Bausch & Lomb India.
Other investors that participated in this round include Surojit Shome, India CEO of DBS Bank, Vipin Chawla co-founder Instant Systems Inc., Baskar Subramaniyan, and Madhavan Sreenivasan, co-founders of Servion and former Citibank executive Vikram Sud. With this, Ankit Nagori and Harish Natarajan will join the startup’s Board of Directors.
Founded in November 2015 by Manoj Nair, Delhi-based Picsdream is a platform under the group company of Addazz Online Services (P) Ltd. It is a marketplace and a platform, both on the web and as a mobile app for photographers to share, showcase and monetise their work. Other apps for photo sharing include Instagram, PicsArt, Shoto, etc.
The platform connects photographers, be it amateur, semi-professional or professionals, with buyers of photographs. It also provides the buyers with options of media on which they can get the desired photograph printed and delivered.
Talking about the development investor Raman Roy, said, “I am excited about Picsdream’s vision and strategy as it strengthens its platform, grows its community of contributors and engages with buyers. I believe that the timing is right to create a marketplace for photographers as there is heightened interest in photography, given that more than a trillion photographs are clicked every year. This space holds tremendous promise and bundling services with the product would be a winning combination.
The startup will utilise the newly raised capital for selective and targeted marketing to build its community of Picsdreamers, and to invest in product and technology development for an enhanced user experience.
Picsdream aims to be the largest platform for the Indian visual arts community. Starting with photographs and then moving to other forms of visual art, Picsdream, intends to be synonymous with visual art in India.
