Okinawa Launches E-Scooters In India – Plans To Invest $40 Mn In Next 3 Years

E-automobile manufacturer, Okinawa Autotech Pvt. Ltd has launched an e-vehicle named ‘RIDGE’- with zero emission and clock speeds of 55+ km/hr. With only a normal charging duration of 6-8 hours, Okinawa’s e-scooters can reportedly cover distances of almost 200 kms in upcoming models. Furthermore, it offers dual charging systems – while the normal mode takes anywhere between 6-8 hours and another one which requires two hours, combined with the savings it generates through zero fuel and engine oil costs.

Founded in 2015 by Jeetender Sharma and Rupali Sharma, Okinawa manufactures high-speed, electric two-wheelers/scooters for the Indian market with features such as zero noise pollution and zero-emission and a no-accident approach based on carefully evaluated safety parameters. With the support of its Japanese staff across different verticals – R&D, manufacturing, quality, and sales & marketing – Okinawa’s scooters focus on catering to the twin aspects of protecting nature and comforting the user.

Okinawa’s headquarters are situated in Gurugram, and its manufacturing unit is established in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.

Features Of The Okinawa Electric Vehicles

Okinawa’s vehicles are equipped with state-of-the-art technology that provides the best of performance and sustainability. Furthermore, these vehicles are fitted with unique utility features such as anti-theft alarm, speedometer, central locking smart controller (with EABS) as well as an eco and power mode of operations.

Okinawa’s Ridge is valued at INR 43,702 available at Delhi Ex-showroom.  

In terms of looks and aesthetics, Okinawa’s latest product Ridge is available in four colour combinations that is red, green-gold, red-white, and white. Alloy wheels, tubeless tyres, and telescopic suspension further empower the vehicle to handle any kind of terrain, whether they are the clogged roads of the cities or the barely-there roads of rural India. It has a loading capacity of 150 kg and under-the-seat storage.

To provide hassle-free purchase to its customer, Okinawa’s vehicles have been approved by ICAT and GOI for complying with regulatory standards and available for insurance with almost all leading insurance companies.

Future Plans

Being an Indian company, the founder’s vision is to be a leading electric two-wheeler manufacturer by offering a solution to the daily commuting needs of the average person. They plan to invest $40 Mn in the next three years.

“We have prepared a detailed state-wise expansion plan and will be following up the ‘Ridge’ with other scooters which have unique features such as accident detection, app-enabled vehicle maintenance, and smart controller-based road positioning,” said Jeetender.
