Snapdeal has announced strategic partnerships with Cleartrip and Redbus for travel, and Zomato for food orders, but without investing in them, reported HT.

Separate icons for travelling and food ordering will be introduced on the Snapdeal app.

The three companies have shared their application programme interface (API) with Snapdeal, which will charge a small commission on all bookings made through its app.

With this development, Snapdeal and the three companies aim to share users, get more orders, spend less on acquiring customers, as well as save a huge funds, to build businesses organically.

“Getting the inventory and the price is a commodity business… But these are mega malls with many buyers. For Snapdeal, travel will never be its main business, for us, it is,” said Ashish Kashyap, founder and CEO of Ibibo Group.

An executive from Cleartrip said, “Snapdeal will have access to our flight inventory, and we will share a portion of our commission with them.”

Kunal Bahl, CEO and co-founder of Snapdeal, earlier mentioned that his company wants to build an ecosystem over the Internet. Now Bahl is aiming to get 10% of all consumption online, which is INR 85 lakh Cr., or 70% of India’s GDP. Consumption is expected to go up to INR 132 lakh Cr. by 2020.
