Zone Startups India and the Government of Ontario, Canada have announced the fourth edition on the ‘The Next BIG Idea’ contest, an annual startup competition.

The Next BIG Idea contest presents an opportunity for tech startups from India, to tap into the North American market. Five high potential early stage startups, and provides them a gateway to North America. The contest winners get access to local mentors, corporate connects and investor connects in Canada.

This year, The Next BIG Idea contest has on-boarded Google, HDFC Bank and TCS coming on board as sponsor partners.

Sponsor HDFC Bank is seeking to reach out to the startups across India, for its SmartUP Platform. Likewise, TCS is keen to engage with startups through their Co-Innovation Network platform. Google is a well known supporter and evangelist of the startup ecosystem in India.

In the next couple of weeks, Zone Startups India will host roadshows across 11 Indian cities, to launch the contest pan-India. The contest has already received over 700 registrations for attending the roadshows. Some of the past winners include CitrusPay, Vidooly, Konotor, ShieldSquare, Survelytics, Plackal to name a few.

Jens-Michael Schaal, Senior Economic Officer, Ontario International Marketing Centre, said, “This contest is an opportunity for best-in-class Indian startups to get an introduction to the North American market, and valuable new business connections. Ontario is a leader in innovation on the global stage, and we welcome pioneering companies and ideas to add to our innovation ecosystem.”

Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the 3rd largest tech hub in North America. Being multi-cultural at heart, Ontario, Canada is open to businesses and entrepreneurs. Also, the cost of doing business is much lower. Abundant with talent, and having a strong pool of tech companies and startup incubators in the Greater Toronto Area, the region provides a great support ecosystem for tech startups to scale.

The contest is an application-based process, where entries are evaluated on the basis of clarity of concept, innovation of the idea, development feasibility and the marketability of the product. The 5 winners get an all expenses paid, 2 weeks bespoke programming tailored to their needs for exploring the North American market.
