Mumbai-based Mydidi.in, a technology enabled home services apprentice platform, has raised $150K in seed funding from international investors including the names of Jozef Bardik, Leo Wang and Sangeet Ram.
The startup plans to use the secured funds to scale its vendor base, and work further on its marketing efforts to expand reach across Mumbai.
Founded in June 2015, by IIT Bombay alumni Jhonny Jha, Sagar Sen and Tushar Jadhav, Mydidi.in, is an on-demand services platform powered by women. Their first product ‘Spotless’ catering to the housekeeping segment, aims to bring the ‘serviced residences’ concept to every home and office. Under the ‘Didi’ umbrella, the company charges the customers based on the number of productive hours the service providers work. The company has around 50 women on its platform under the housekeeping segment and plans to add 30 more in the cooking segment.
The startup provides its ‘Didis’ with apprentice and thorough training. It aims to become a discovery platform, similar to Uber, which connects the service providers with on-demand job requests via the mobile app.
According to the company, there are 50 Mn women workers in this segment in India. Mydidi wants to organise this massive unorganised market and hopes to create a social impact along the way. The company states that its vision is to ‘organise and upskill via training, technology and services to 10 Mn service providers by 2020.
Mydidi.in launched ‘Spotless’ in restricted suburbs of Mumbai around 3 weeks ago. As of now, it had served 200 orders which amounts to 500 productive hours. So far the company has gained a 50% retention rate from existing customers.
The company is targeting families, working professionals and business organisations which are constantly on the lookout for on-demand and trustworthy home services.
While several hyperlocal delivery services startups like FindYahan, Taskbob, Urbanclap, Housejoy, Zimmber, Bookmybai, etc., make it easy to find reliable service providers. The market is overpopulated with agencies who provide nannies or cooks without taking any responsibility of any mishap later.
According to the company, the earlier approaches have always focused primarily on the customer side, without delving deep into service quality, attrition rate, etc.
The Mydidi.in team is trying to address these challenges by focusing on the onboarding, training and management process of the service providers with the help of technology and social engineering. With its unique vendor apprenticeship model, the startup plans to replicate high quality service provision at scale across India.
