Data analytics company, Mu Sigma, has appointed Ambiga Dhiraj as its new CEO, making her the first woman CEO of an Indian Unicorn.
Ambiga, who was the former COO in the company has replaced her husband and founder-chairman Dhiraj Rajaram. This comes at a time when Dhiraj will be relocating to the US. He will continue in a full-time capacity with the company and remain as chairman.
Dhiraj Rajaram, founder and chairman of the company said, “Mu Sigma is moving from its adolescence into its prime. The rate at which we’ve added new clients, combined with the amount of help that our clients demand in realising the potential of Big Data, led me to this decision to work with them more closely. Ambiga is one of the most design-oriented and operationally strong leaders that I’ve ever worked with. The company had planned for this possibility, and the time is right.”
The move will enable the founder to engage directly with majority of the clients. He will also concentrate on designing new offerings for the company’s man-machine ecosystem and focusing on strategic alliances.
Ambiga has been associated with Mu Sigma since 2007 and has led functions of talent management, marketing, innovation and product development before assuming the role of COO in February 2012. As the COO of the company she became a catalyst of major improvements to the company’s Indian operations and the global delivery of products and services to the market.
Earlier in 2013, Mu Sigma raised money from MasterCard in a deal that valued it more than $1 Bn. So far it has received funding in risk-capital funding from General Atlantic, Sequoia Capital and Fidelity Investments, etc.
