Mobile fitness startup MobieFit grabbed $1 Mn (INR 6.63 Cr) from Medi Assist India.

Medi Assist India TPA Pvt. Ltd. is a healthcare manager that provides services related to medical insurance. With this investment, the company will further strengthen its presence in the corporate segment through mobile app-based fitness programmes. It presently has more than 5,000 corporate clients for its customized wellness programmes. The company already has its mobile app Medibuddy, launched in 2013, to plan their hospitalization, raise and track health insurance claims, search network hospitals, schedule appointments and various other things.

However, with the mobile devices fast catching pace in the country Medi Assist has partnered with MobieFit to align its future strategy. It plans to launch more apps in other areas of fitness in 2016.

MobieFit is co-founded by serial entrepreneur Gourav Jaswal and Indian actress Gul Panag. The startup is backed by startup incubator Prototyze and launched its debut product FirstRun, a voice-assisted coaching-based app that provides training program giving running tips and guidance.

Gourav Jaswal, director of MobieFit said, “With our partnership with Medi Assist, we hope to take our mFitness offering to more than 5 million corporate employees in urban India.”

According to Jaswal, fitness is as stratified as the restaurant business in India. To remain fit there are over 50 million people who walk, over 10 million people who practise yoga and over 7.5 million who hit the gym.

Earlier in May this year, TV Mohandas Pai along with other investors had invested in 2mpower Health Management Services Pvt Ltd, that developed a wearable fitness tracking device GetActive.
