Gurgaon-based online travel firm, MakeMyTrip, has announced the launch of its rail booking services in 5 languages besides English.

The passengers will be able to opt from Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Gujarati to book rail tickets. With this, MakeMyTrip plans to reach about 62% of India’s population.

MakeMyTrip aims to provide seamless onboarding experience to 300 Mn people by giving them an option to book tickets in the language of their choice to make entire experience comfortable for the commuters.

How Does It Work:

  • The service is currently available on Android platform
  • To use this feature, a user has to select the “Rails” tab on MakeMyTrip portal
  • After that click on the top banner to choose the language choice

The company has even hired skilled translators for every language to help translate the content.

On this development, Anshuman Bapna, CPO of MakeMyTrip said, “Rail transportation, which is the second-biggest travel segment in India, was the fastest-growing travel segment last year. There is tremendous potential in vernacular content and we are investing in services supported by vernacular content to catalyze the offline to online shift.”

Besides, MakeMyTrip also plans to launch the option of language choice for their flight-booking service by end of this year. This will include translating flight-booking service into four regional languages including Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.

India being a diverse land has 22 official languages. These days startups want to tap the regional territories as they account for large target audience. Startups like mobile news aggregation platform, NewsHunt and News in shorts have their content in local languages.
