Elearning Services Startup Liqvid To Incubate Ed-Tech Startups; To Spend Upto $5 Mn

Noida-based Liqvid eLearning Services, an educational software company, has announced its plans to incubate and fund up to five mobile-first startups in the edtech space.

Liqvid’s founder & CEO, Vivek Agarwal said that the company is open to spend upto $5 Mn for handholding early stage startups and entrepreneurs, with a novel idea.

For this investment, Liqvid is not spinning off a separate fund, yet will look at its balance sheet for the investments.

In order to provide funding along with technology and mentoring, Vivek said, “We are now looking to leverage our content and technology by incubating young and passionate entrepreneurs who will create large mobile-first B2C businesses in the ed-tech space. This approach will dramatically reduce the go-to-market time for entrepreneur and help in rapidly achieving scale.”

Started in 2002 by Vivek Agarwal, an IIM-Calcutta alumnus, LIQVID, is a global eLearning service provider with domain-specific expertise in custom eLearning solutions, enterprise learning, blended learning solutions, eLearning technology, and learning support through its flagship product EnglishEdge.

Agarwal had earlier co-founded eGurucool, an IT-assisted education portal offering digital content in science and teaching methodology, was sold to NIIT. Its proceeds of $110 K (INR 75 lakh) were used to fund the new venture Liqvid.

Since then the company has created over 8,000 hours of eLearning content and has tied-up with over 1,600 schools, along with premier institutions and corporates, such as the IITs, Cairn Energy and has executed several prestigious projects for organizations like Motorola, IBM, Hughes, American Express, BBC Learning, Harcourt, Oracle, Standard Chartered Bank, and Philips.

Now, Liqvid wants to associate itself with startups that focus on online test preparation, online vocational training, language training and other areas within technology in education.
