Karnataka Transport Authorities Seize About 110 Cabs Including That Of Ola And Uber

Besides other taxis, bad days for cab aggregators Ola and Uber continue as about 110 cabs were seized by transport authorities in Bangalore yesterday (Thursday), reported ET.

Near Yeshwanthpur, Hebbal, Nagawara and Mekhri circle, the transport department found taxis and cabs plying in violation of rules.

The authority said:

1. These aggregators have not obtained licences to operate, a gross violation of the Karnataka on-demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules 2016.
2. And these companies are misleading innocent drivers and owners of cabs to carry passengers without following rules and violating permit conditions.

Ola and Uber have applied to the transport department for licence pemit to do business as aggregators in response to the April 2 policy notified by Karnataka. The policy also requires cab aggregators to comply with the notified fare structure and not demand “surge pricing”.

Prior to this, in January, Delhi Govt issued notice to the private cab service to put a hold on its service. Indore’s Regional Transport Office seized about 16 Olacabs that were either running without registration or without the police verification of the hired drivers. Reports had suggested that about 100 Olacabs were running in the city of Indore without the GPS system in many of its cars.
