Chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, who invests in startups not because of valuation but for passion, has invested an undisclosed amount in Mumbai-based data analytics firm Infinite Analytics.
Existing investor Nikhil Vora of Sixth Sense ventures and new investors from Silicon Valley and India also participated in this round.
Also, inventor of the WWW (World Wide Web), Tim Berners-Lee and Deb Roy, Chief Media Scientist at Twitter are advisers and investors in the company.
Infinite Analytics plans to expand its predictive analytics technology to different verticals beyond retail and ecommerce with the newly raised funds. The company is also on a look out to build a robust team.
Started in 2012, Infinite Analytics Inc is a US-based predictive marketing and analysis company run by Indian born MIT alumni Akash Bhatia and Purushotam Botla.
The company specializes in deep machine learning and predictive analytics. Its platform merges data from multiple sources collating information on customer demography, transactions, loyalty program and open data to create a 360-degree view of a user.
Infinite Analytics has managed to onboard customers like AirBnB, Comcast, B2W Digital, BabyOye, Croma Retail, eBay, Future Group, Infibeam, NBA, NDTV Retail, Trendin and Tata Marketplace since its inception.
Purushotam Botla, co-founder and CTO of Infinite Analytics said, “We are honored to have Mr. Tata as an investor and advisor. We look forward to work with him to uncover promising areas where we can deploy our analytics product.”
Conceived at MIT and backed by internet pioneers and global investors, Infinite Analytics had raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding to tap the ecommerce market with the promise of real-time predictions of consumer trends and preferences.
Ratan Tata has made series of investments in number of Indian startups including Ola, UrbanLadder, Bluestone, Cardekho.com, Paytm, Xiaomi, Snapdeal, Altaeros Energies, Kaaryah, Ampere and more. Recently, media tech company, YourStory also grabbed funding led by Kalaari Capital and with participation from Ratan Tata.
