NDTV’s ethnic ecommerce venture, IndianRoots, has launched Fashion Business Accelerator in partnership with 6Degree, to boost budding fashion professionals.
The incubator aims at providing state of the art facilities and opportunities for fashion professionals to grow their business. The stipulated duration of incubation is 6 months, and is extendable to 1 year on review.
Currently, the incubation center is situated in Goa & Gurgaon. After selection, in order to avail space in the center, the designers will have to pay a rent of INR 10K per month. The center is packed with facilities like cutting tables, steam iron, machines, pattern master, tailors, embroiders, etc. As a part of the incubation program, designers will get exposure to industry working standards and guidance from mentors who will guide them on topics like trend forecasting, designing, finding investment, selling online or in stores, etc.
Also, the designers and their designs will be promoted across social and digital media channels. The collection will be showcased on IndianRoots as well.
Prior to this, Myntra also launched its fashion incubator ‘Designer in Residence’ in September 2014, to inspire young entrepreneurs and designers who have a flair for the business of fashion.
IndianRoots.com was launched in August 2013 by Rahul Narvekar. It showcases over 100 designers and 700+ brands on its curated online marketplace. It has a worldwide customer base with India and USA being the largest markets. In May 2015, it raised $5 Mn in Series B led by KJS Group.
On the other hand, 6Degree was founded in 2014 by Nikhil Hegde and Amit Bhardwaj. It is a fashion talent platform for professionals, students, bloggers, employers, designers and photographers, and had raised an undisclosed amount in seed funding from Centre For Incubation & Business Acceleration (CIBA), Goa, in November 2015.
