Following the trend of ‘Make In India’, Indian government will be launching an improved version of its own operating system (OS) named Bharat Operating System Solutions (BOSS), which may replace Microsoft Windows and all other OS for official use in future.
The OS, that has been tested for the past three months will be unveiled to all and discussed in an internal meeting in union home ministry this week.
BOSS, is developed with the help of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Gujarat Technical University and some other private computer manufacturers.
National Resource Centre for Free/Open Source Software (NRCFOSS) of India developed BOSS in 2007. The latest version of BOSS was released in 2013 and has undergone many changes to fit the process.
BOSS is said to come with powerful security features that can protect from countless attacks by hackers.
Reportedly, the new OS comes with a virtual keyboard on the display screen itself and a bulk file converter which ensures a safe and speedy transfer of data. Another great feature about this OS is that it was able to withstand the activities by Army Intelligence who tried to break in but were unsuccessful.
“Government’s need have a fully secure network. Fresh codes unique to the system have been written for the OS. Its source code that makes it safe and secure will have to be guarded at all cost,” sources told DNA.
The Indian operating system will be supporting 18 languages including regional languages including Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Malayalam.
