Aiming to bring capability and quality in app developers, the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), India’s premier industry body representing the Internet and Mobile industry has launched “Mobile10X” to scale up mobile app developer ecosystem from the current 50,000 to five lakh.
According to IAMAI, under the Mobile10X programme, five mobile startup hubs will be set up across the country in five years, to increase the mobile app revenue to INR 10,000 Cr. from INR 1,000 Cr. These hubs will have a testing lab and a design lab in addition to co-working space.
Mobile10X through Industry connect will be the platform for developers to connect with peers and industry experts. The Investor connect will help developers reach out to potential investors. It will train five lakh engineering students on Android and iOS platforms, provide mentoring with experts and will also help in connecting with the industry and investors.
The first hub will be launched in Bangalore next month, followed by Gurgaon centre, which will be coming up by January 2016. Besides, there are talks for incubation centres to be opened in places like Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Mumbai and Pune in the near future.
The board of Mobile10X will include Subho Ray, Karnataka IT, V Manjula, biotechnology secretary and Rajan Anandan, Google India head. It will also include Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder of Paytm; Naveen Tewari, founder & CEO of InMobi; and Kunal Bahl, co-founder & CEO Snapdeal.
Subho Ray, IAMAI president said, “India is on the cusp of an apps revolution. With over 213 Mn mobile internet users and nearly 130 Mn local language consumers on the internet, the growth trajectory for apps development is bound to be exponential.”
With apps developers’ community growing at an exponential pace, Mobile10X would augur developer base, quality and market by 10 times by 2019.
