Bangalore-based Housejoy, an on-demand service provider, has raised about $22.5 Mn (INR 150 Cr.) in Series B round of funding led by ecommerce major Amazon. Prior to this, the startup had raised $4Mn in its Series A round of funding from Matrix Partners.
The round also saw participation from existing investor Matrix Partners and new investors including Temasek’s venture arm Vertex Ventures, Qualcomm and Ru-Net Technology Partners.
HouseJoy will use the raised capital to grow & innovate its service category to help solve deep operational issues. Besides, the funds will also be used for strategic acquisitions, partnerships and to team expansion.
Launched in January this year by Arjun Kumar and Sunil Goel, HouseJoy, provides on-demand house cleaning service. Besides, the startup also offers in-house computer repairs, beauty treatments, bridal services, maintenance and home repairs. The company takes a 10-25% cut of the service depending on the service it provides.
Speaking on the development, Amit Agarwal, VP & and country manager at Amazon India, said, “Housejoy seeks to provide customers with a differentiated experience in shopping for home services. This aligns with our mission in India to transform the way India buys and sells.”
Since inception in January, Housejoy has been growing at a rapid pace on a month-on-month basis and is currently fulfilling more than 4000 orders a day. They have partnered with more than 10,000 service providers across 11 cities on its platform. Now, the startup aims to have 50,000 service providers on the platform to serve 100,000 jobs per day.
Other players operating in this space include, LocalOye, UrbanPro, UrbanClap and Zimmber.
