Underlining the importance of data oriented decisions, Gurgaon based referral hiring startup, GrownOut, has launched a Data Insights Labs. It is a preliminary investigation platform which will help recruiters understand talent behaviour before they start the hiring process. Data Insights Labs employs data analysis and algorithms to predict the movement of talent across cities, the activeness of the candidates looking out for a job, and the geographical distribution of talent. The platform goes live today and is free for recruiters to use.

Data Insights labs will allow recruiters to map which city has the highest percentage of active candidates for a particular skill set and which city has the biggest base for a particular talent. All data collected and employed by GrownOut is from the public information available from sources like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, etc. Broadly, it will help recruiters through the following three insights:

Talent Movement Graph: This graph will help identify city wise inbound movement of talent from other cities. For instance, one can track from which places maximum talents are coming into, say Mumbai. One can see from the Talent Movement Graph that Pune (31.9%) and Bangalore (26.18%) are contributing almost 58% of the incoming talent in the city.

Similarly, the graph also provides information about the skill sets that get most attracted to a city. So in Mumbai, the top 5 skills moving to the city include C/C++, Java, Project Management, Diffserv and Sales.

Candidate Activeness Graph: This graph will enable recruiters to tackle the challenge of tapping active talent. GrownOut’s patent pending technology JSP (Job Switching Prediction) identifies the active talent in each city and compares it to the total talent pool. Through this graph, one can find the active talent for a particular skill set and experience. For instance, if one needs to know the active talent in Business Analysis with 3-5 years of experience city wise, Bangalore (59.99%) and Kolkata (59.98%), top the list.

Activeness Distribution Graph: This graph will enable the recruiter to understand the top skills active in a city and the experience wise breakdown of Active candidates. This will enable them to identify which talent is most active in a particular city. For instance, if one selects Bangalore, the most active talent would be those C/C++ professionals. In this pool, those with years of experience ranging from 0-3, would be the most active percentage i.e. 22.93%.

Data Labs were popularised by Housing.com, and as per founder Sumit Gupta, Grown Out Lab’s Data Insights Labs also mirrors the same rising trend of startups employing more of these for data based decisions. The startup which aims to reduce the lag time in recruiting has been funded by Matrix partners and Outbox Ventures.  It uses referral hiring in the reverse, where it cuts out the need for employees to broadcast jobs in their network. Instead it uses data analysis and deep algorithms to search through all publicly available data of the employees such as his college, past employers, to build a pool of potential employees.

Many startups have entered the job-hiring space and are trying to make hiring a simplified process. Notable among these include Mumbai-based job portal, Aasaanjobs, which raised $1.5 Mn in seed round funding from Inventus Capital Partners and IDG Ventures India this January, Bangalore-based job search platform, Jobspire, which raised $262K seed round of funding led by Purvi Capital last month, and Bangalore-based, mobile first job platform Babajob, which secured a $10 Mn minority investment from SEEK Limited.
