Chandigarh Angels Network Back Ecommerce Based Gourmet Food Startup The Gourmet Jar

Noida-based online gourmet food marketplace, The Gourmet Jar has raised an undisclosed amount from Chandigarh Angels Network.

The fresh funds will be used to build team and scale up its operations. It will also be divested towards marketing, brand management, and customer acquisition.

Founded in 2012 by Apeksha Jain, The Gourmet Jar works via both offline and online channels. It offers a range of artisanal jams, mustards, relishes, preserves, and condiments, that it claims are handmade, natural, and sans preservatives. The company has produced over 200K jars in the past two years.

Commenting on the investment, Karam Naresh Singh, participating investor, Chandigarh Angels Network said, “Chandigarh Angels Network is excited to be a part of The Gourmet Jar’s expansion plans and help scale it to the next level. The investors are enthusiastic to commit comprehensive support to the rising entrepreneurial ecosystem of India not just by investing in passionate startups like TGJ but also by nurturing, mentoring and providing the right platform for young startups to thrive.”

As per an official statement, the company currently manages its retail operations through Modern Trade outlets and premium general stores. The products are also sold online via their website, Amazon India, and Big Basket.

Currently a team of 16, the startup plans to launch new products and boost its sales via the ecommerce channel and gift portals. It also has plans to enter the global market.

Operating in a similar space, in November 2015, Bengaluru-based online gourmet food marketplace, PlaceofOrigin.in, raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Axilor Ventures. In October 2015, Mumbai-based iChef.in, a gourmet meals startup, raised funding from Springboard Ventures.

Other players in the segment include Naturally Yours, Delight Foods, Chef’s Basket etc.
