Online travel platform Goibibo has been ranked No.1 for hotel booking in a recent report by Morgan Stanley. The ranking was given by top hoteliers on various parameters such as confirmed bookings, last-minute bookings, backend & IT support, insights and market intelligence, etc.

Ashish Kashyap, founder of ibibo, said, “We are excited that we have achieved the No.1 position in India in the hotels category. We have been able to achieve the same by strengthening network effects, providing superior user experience on mobile and delivering powerful tools and technologies to thousands of hotels.”

For the period of October to December 2015, Goibibo crossed 1.6 Mn hotel bookings. Mobile bookings have contributed up to 71 % of the total bookings in the month of December 2015. The report also states that Goibibo is the fastest-growing hotels’ OTA (online travel agency) in India.

In September 2015, Goibibo launched GoStays, a budget accommodation marketplace in 72 cities, translated to 10,000 rooms a day.

Other players in this segment are MakeMyTrip, Yatra, Zo Rooms and Softbank-backed OYO Rooms. In January 2016, Yatra.com acqui-hired Mumbai-based Travel-logs, which specialises in organising customised city walks and private tours. Few other players that emerged in this segment last year include Zo Rooms, Wudstay Hotels, FabHotels and Treebo Hotels.
