Gurgaon-based Planet GoGo, a startup that offers personalised content on mobile lock screen, has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from HT Media (through their subsidiary HT Digital Media Holdings Limited) and North Base Media (NBM).
The company will use the raised capital for user growth and traction. Founded in September this year by Daman Soni and Rajat Gupta, Planet GoGo app, offers news and entertainment content from partnered publishing sites including HT Media, and displays them on the lock screen of mobile phones with the help of its Android GoGo app; which was launched in November this year.
Besides this feature, users are also rewarded through ‘GoGo points’ with free talk time for reading the content or even unlocking their phone. ‘GoGo points’ is a novel point system that allows users to redeem talk time from their mobile operator by using the accumulated points. The company has partnered with telecom operators such as Airtel and Vodafone.
Here’s how it works:
Rajat Gupta, co-founder of GoGo said, “With the ever increasing number of smartphone users, GoGo focuses to revolutionise content consumption for mobile users without having them to spend for it. A large part of the population today rely on apps for everyday content needs and GoGo provides users with curated quality content on-the-go.”
The startup publishes about 150 articles per day from across 14 categories that include technology, food, bollywood, fashion, sports, news & life, startups, automobile and travel.
In the future, GoGo app will also be supporting multiple languages since vernacular content consumption on the phone is increasing at a rapid pace.
