Genext Students, a technology-enabled student platform has raised $209K (INR 1.4Cr) from 1Crowd, a crowdfunding platform for startups.
Founded in May 2011 by London School of Economics alumni Ali Asgar Kagzi and Asad Daud, Genext Students deals with online learning for grades K-12 students, across CBSE, ICSE and RBSE boards.
It functions on a hybrid model which combines digital content and aggregates un-branded tutors for personalised learning for students. The content includes notes, sample question papers, videos, and ebooks. Students can opt for home tutors as well. It has also introduced a game based learning module – NABUmania.
The funding will be used to build technology, expand its team, and for scaling marketing strategies. Ali Asgar Kagzi, co-founder, Genext Students said, “The funds will be used to accelerate product technology development and enhance our marketing efforts.”
Online education portals have attempted to revolutionise the education industry in India. Major players in the edtech sector include Edukart, classteacher.com, Embibe, Toppr, UpGrad and AlmaMapper.

It works with both B2B and B2C startups. It has recently invested in a community services platform, ZIPGRID. In March 2016, 1Crowd also invested in a technology and analytics-based startup Proximiti.
