Rocket Internet-backed FoodPanda has partnered with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to offer ordered meals to rail passengers.

The partnership will allow Indian railway passengers  to place orders for meals at-least 2 hours in advance of their travel. Consumers will also have an option to pay online or pay cash on delivery. FoodPanda plans to deploy its own delivery fleet to fulfil all deliveries for this tie up.

The pilot of the proposed association is being planned to be launched for the New Delhi Railway station. Further which the service will be extended to cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai.

Gurgaon-based FoodPanda provides a curated menu from 12000+ restaurants across 200+ cities in India, along with its partner brands Tastykhana.in & JustEat.in, which it acquired earlier this year.

Robin Kalita, Director, Catering Services at IRCTC, said, “With progressing times, we aim to offer wider choices to our consumers and are extremely thankful to Foodpanda to have partnered with us. We are happy that we will be able to offer wider food choices to our consumers with this association and once our pilot project is successful, we will extend the service to more locations.”

FoodPanda will join a growing list of food chains like McDonald’s, KFC, Switz Foods, Only Alibaba, Dominos, Haldiram, Bikanerwala and others, who have already tied up with IRCTC since its launch of station-based e-catering service in October. Just few days back, Hello Curry, a Hyderabad-based fast food chain startup, also entered into a partnership with IRCTC to supply meal options to railway passengers.
