Online marketplace Flipkart, that re-launched its mobile site by the name ‘Flipkart Lite’ in November last year, has launched its mobile site on UCWeb’s flagship product UC Browser.

UC Browser is ranked as the widely used mobile browser in India and the second most popular mobile browser worldwide. According to StatCounter, UC Browser has over 55% market share and a business within Alibaba mobile business group.

Flipkart’s partnership with UC Browser will help consumers to access the platform even on a slow 2G network.

Flipkart reports that over 50% of its traffic comes from non-metros which usually have a slow internet connection. Thus, to extend its reach to these potential customers from various geographic locations, Flipkart will be available on UC Browser. With this, the customers will be able to have access to all 30 Mn+ products across 70+ categories on Flipkart platform.

The mobile-site on UC Browser presently has features such as search, offers and cart. Flipkart plans to gradually integrate advanced features in the subsequent releases.

Surojit Chatterjee, Senior Vice President and Head Consumer Experience & Growth of Flipkart said, “Flipkart has always believed in providing a superior and convenient shopping experience to its users across all touch points. With mobile becoming the main front where the next gen of shoppers are coming from, this launch strengthens our mission to create an extremely responsive interface for users, even on the mobile web. We are excited to partner with UCWeb and revolutionize the ecommerce landscape in the country.”

Earlier, Flipkart Lite was launched as a progressive web app that gave smartphone users an immersive and high-performance experience, even in offline mode. Mobile sites or progressive web apps are beyond just being mobile versions of their desktop sites. It is a mobile site that almost looks like an app which has better user interface design unlike Native Apps, that needs to be downloaded and kept updated frequently.
