Flipkart partners with Udacity, an online learning company to hire graduates, based on capabilities it has built through Udacity’s Nanodegree programs.

The ecommerce company will select candidates based on its Nanodegree projects and Udacity profiles. The process will not include interviews or group discussions. There will be no in-person interview or group exercises.  This “interview-less hiring” approach enabled Flipkart to hire talent swiftly, shortened the hiring process and gave it an edge in the hunt for talented professionals.

California-based Udacity is an online learning company with an aim to democratise education by giving individuals the skills needed to get preferred jobs to advance their economic potential.

Udacity’s Nanodegree programs, built by leading companies such as Google, Facebook, Cloudera and Amazon among others, bring the latest technical knowledge to students anywhere in the world. The company has over 4 Mn students in 168 countries.

Flipkart has reported that three graduates have already been hired, and have started working with the mobile development team. These graduates of Udacity’s Android Developer Nanodegree, moved from Delhi to Bangalore and are the first ones to join the team.

Peeyush Ranjan, CTO at Flipkart said, “The kind of disruptive work that we do at Flipkart demands a world-class talent pool and we are constantly on the look-out for experts who can solve the problems of Indian consumers. The conventional hiring process often comes down to the performance of the candidate on that specific day, which may not be a true reflection of their skills and temperament. This is where a partner like Udacity comes into the picture. We met them a few months ago with our case and wanted to try out this new space. The shortlisted profiles provided by them and the in-depth data we received were very helpful and allowed us to assess the candidate’s competencies in a much better way.”

India’s mobile economy is rapidly growing with talented developers in short supply. As per reports from IAMAI, the country has between 50,000 to 70,000 developers and is expected to need 20 Mn by 2020.
