Homegrown ecommerce marketplace, Flipkart has taken camera maker, Nikon India to the Karnataka High Court.
Nikon had put a statutory warning on its website advising people not to buy its products through online stores like Snapdeal and Flipkart, which consequently provoked Flipkart to file a case against the company.
Flipkart said, “They have singled us out and they cannot make such statements.” The marketplace pointed out that Nikon India’s caution notice dated June 16, 2014, said that ecommerce websites like Flipkart, Snapdeal are not their authorised partner/dealer and consumers need to check the warranty entitlements while buying from online portals.
Flipkart had filed the case on August 3 this year, in which the company claimed that “We are selling the same product and therefore, we are asking the high court to restrain Nikon from publishing the statement on their website.”
The Karnataka high court has scheduled its next hearing on the matter for August 21.
According to a Snapdeal spokesperson, “Products available on Snapdeal carry the same genuine and legitimate title and hence are eligible for warranty as applicable to any off-line purchases.”
Snapdeal had filed a similar case against kitchen appliance maker, Kaff, last year who had made similar advisory on its website.
